CHRISTOPH STÄUBLI

Christoph Stäubli is an experienced Swiss business lawyer, now heading his own independent law firm Stäubli Advocate.

Before, he worked for many years as a lawyer, partner and senior counsel at the well-known Swiss law firm Walder Wyss AG (www.walderwyss.com) in the corporate- commercial and later in the transaction team; this with a special focus on M&A mandates, financing, restructuring projects and liquidations. As a lawyer, he has advised at home and abroad in a leading position on numerous important corporate transactions.

Mandates focusing on corporate law are based on many years of activity as a board member of domestic and foreign companies. This is especially true in the areas of financial services, trade, and information technology; his practical knowledge in the area of corporate law and commercial contract law was also acquired through his support for outsourced legal services to well-known companies.

Christoph Stäubli is a specialist in insolvency law issues and is a commentator on numerous topical publications (see section Publications). He advises and represents various stakeholders, especially major creditors, in judicial and extrajudicial restructurings of financially troubled companies; in particular in cases of international insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings with cross-border aspects.

As counsel of trust, Christoph Stäubli also advises private clients on asset structuring, inheritance issues and succession planning.

Before working as attorney-at-law, he worked for several years at the Zurich courts as a clerk and later as a referee for debt restructuring proceedings.

Christoph Stäubli speaks German, English and French. He is registered with the Zurich Bar Register and is admitted to practice in all Switzerland.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

  • January 2021 opening of the own law firm «Stäubli Advocate»

  • Lawyer, partner and senior counsel at the law firm Walder Wyss AG in Zurich until the end of 2020; also assuming a number of managerial tasks.

  • Trustee, extra-official bankruptcy liquidator; representing significant creditor interests in prominent insolvency proceedings in Switzerland and in restructuring cases. Chairman of the creditors' committee of Flightlease AG in debt restructuring liquidation (SAirGroup).

  • 1981 start of work as a lawyer with Walder Wyss & Partners

  • 1980/1981 foreign intern at an international law firm in New York.

  • From 1974 to 1979 worked at the District Court of Zurich, including two years as court clerk and referee for debt restructuring proceedings; Temporary appointment as court clerk at the superior court of the canton of Zurich.

  • 1980: Graduation Master of Comparative Laws of Georgetown University, Law Center (M.C.L.), Washington. D.C., USA.

  • 1978: Awarded the Zurich Bar license
